WNBA says it cannot substantiate claims that racist remarks were made by fans at Sky-Fever game
The WNBA says that it cannot justify the claim that the racist fan behavior took place during a game in Indianapolis between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever at the beginning of this month.
The league said that its investigation included collecting information from fans, team and arena employees as well as an “audio and video review of the game”.
The league said: “We didn’t justify it.”
According to a person who was familiar with the investigation, the WNBA was claimed that racist comments were made by the fans of Chicago in Angel Reese in Chicago, during the loss against WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark and the fever.
Reese, who is black, and Clark, who is white, met for the seventh time in their ongoing and a lot of conversation rivalry. Clark later said she heard no racist comments during this game, but he admitted that it was loud during the game in the arena of Indiana.
“It is super loud here and although I haven’t heard anything, I think, that’s why they do the examination,” said Clark in the early this month. “Therefore, check it. That doesn’t mean nothing happened, so I will only trust the examination of the league, and I am sure that you will do the right thing.”
Both teams had published explanations that supported the study, as did the WNBA Players Union.
“We appreciate the fast and thorough process of the WNBA to investigate these allegations that were not justified,” said Mel Raines, CEO of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, on Tuesday in a statement that was distributed by the fever. “At Gainbridge Fieldhouse we endeavor to offer players and fans the best possible basketball experience in which Hass speeches have absolutely no place. Indiana is home to the biggest fans in the world, and we look forward to an exciting season of the Fever basketball.”
