Where the 2025 NHL award winners played college hockey
With the Stanley Cup finals, the NHL announced its price for the 2024-25 season. Among the winners are three former hockey players NCAA DI: Connor Hellebuyck, Cale Makar and Lane Hutson.

Connor Hellebuyck, G, Umass-Lowell, 2012-2014
Connor Hellebuyck limited the best season of his career by winning his second consecutive trophy Vese as the best NHL goalkeeper. He also won his first Hart Trophy as the most valuable league player. He completed the 2024-25 season with the best career victories (47), average and average goal (2.00), percentage (0.925) and Shutouts (8).
He spent two seasons at Umass-Lowell at Hellebuyck, where he played 52 games and published a record of 38–12–2. In his university career, he has gathered several awards, including the NCAA tournament in 2012, Northeast Regional MVP, which in its newcomer season led the Hawks River to frozen four. In his second season he received the opening prize of Mike Richter as the most important goalkeeper in the men’s hockey di ncaa.

CALE MAKAR, D, UMASS, 2017-2019
Cale Makar published his career maximum in points (92) and goals (30) on his way to victory of his second James Norris Memorial Trophy as the best defender of the NHL. His 2024-25 campaign is the first time the defender scored 30 goals in the season from Mike Green in 2008-09. Makar also becomes only the fifth NHL defender, which records the 90-point season back.
Makar also finished third in a vote for the Ted Lindsay Memorial Trophy for the most important league player who voted by the NHL Association.
Cale Makar has collected hardware from its college days at Umass Amherst. In his season Sophomore won Makar Hockey East Player of the Year and Hobey Baker 2019 Award and was selected for the Hockey East First All-Star team.

Lane Hutson, D, Boston University, 2022-2024
Lane Hutson’s excellent skating and offensive skills were smoothly moving to the NHL level and helped him win the Calder Memorial Trophy as the best NHL newcomer in 2024-25. Hutson led all newcomers in scoring with 66 points and helped Montreal Canadiens to achieve playoffs Stanley Cup for the first time since 2020-21.
Hutson’s smooth and creative style of play made him a hot prospect that he watched in his two seasons at the University of Boston. He was twice named the first team All-American and the TOP-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. He was also a double hockey team All-Star, among several other awards.
