What the MLS CBA says about suspensions after Luis Suarez’s spitting incident in Seattle
Under Miami’s Luis Suarez could be for a long suspension afterwards Spitting on a Seattle Sounders staff during the Leagues Cup final on Sundaywho lost the herons 3-0 in Seattle. The match was marred by a Melee and Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets Seemed to beat the midfielder of Seattle Obed Vargas. Due to the incident that takes place in the Leagues Cup, the Disciplinary Committee for that tournament will view the incident to hand out disciplinary actions, but that does not mean that things do not go to MLS.
Suarez has his own long history of incidents, accused of racial abuse Manchester United’s Patrice Evra in 2011, bite Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic In 2013, and biting Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup. That World Cup incident ended with Suarez who received a serious discipline because he was banned for football for four months. This may not be that long, but could it end its season in MLS game?
Clint Dempsey Is one of the best profile suspects after confronting a referee during the US Open Cup in 2015, so that their notebook is torn. Dempsey was suspended in the tournament for six games, but MLS also added a suspension of three games in the competition. Former Real Salt Lake Coach Mike Petke once received a three-game competition cup suspension for actions towards the referees. MLS has added a League suspension of three games to this.
In the competition, former Houston Dynamo Midfielder Hector Herrera Spit in the direction of a referee in 2024 during the play -offs. He was Roodhard and Steered, and that action played a role in Houston that did not pick up his team option, according to General Manager Pat Onstad. Because of the timing of that incident, he received no extra suspension, but that does not mean that Suarez will not do that.
So what is allowed in terms of penalties?
What does MKBA allow?
While the incident took place in the Leagues Cup, looking at the collective negotiating agreement, this incident would still fall under discipline for misconduct on the field, because that relates to “misconduct that occurs in a stadium or playing facility and that takes place on, or in connection with a game in which the player competes.”
Since Suarez was on Lumen Field, this can be imposed the discipline by the MLS disciplinary committee. That committee must consist of five members, and four of them are appointed by the Commissioner. Two members must be former MLS players and the committee can hand out their suspension. If it is larger than two games, the MLS Players Association may appeal in writing against the Commissioner, at what time a time and place for the appeal will be determined.
It becomes dark in how many competitions that the competition can distribute, but given the seriousness of the situation, if Suarez does not appear in one of the remaining 10 games of Miami’s regular season, it would not come as a surprise. With the herons who only play again on 13 September, there is time to have this worked out, and the competition may need all the time that they can work due to all the consequences of a possible suspension.
