USMNT roster: Why isn’t Christian Pulisic on USA soccer squad for friendlies vs. Turkiye and Switzerland?

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino of the American men, Mauricio Pochettino, left Ster Christian Pulisic of the schedule for the friendly matches of the group against Turkiye and Switzerland, with the help of the last friendly matches for the Concacaf Gold Cup to explore the wider player swimming pool.

Pochettino chose to let Pulisic off so that he can rest after a demanding season for AC Milan, but he is not the only support pillar that has not cut. Antonee Robinson from Fulham was also not mentioned in the schedule, while Timothy Weah, Weston McKennie and Gio Reyna, who will be connected this summer with club obligations at the new extensive Club World Cup, which will at the same time walk to the Gold Cup in the US. Weah and McKennie play for Juventus, while Reyna is in the books in Borussia Dortmund.

“Christian and his team approached the federation and the coaching staff about the possibility of taking a step back this summer, given the number of matches he played at both club and international level in the last two years with a very little break,” said American football director Matt Crocker in a statement, according to the Athletic. “After well -considered discussions and careful consideration, we have made the collective decision that this is the right time to get the rest he needs. The goal is to ensure that he is fully prepared to perform at the highest level next season.”

Instead, Pochettino will work with a series of inexperienced players, with the current selection of an average of 18 caps and 11 in official competition. The group includes four players who have received first call-ups from the Senior National Team Sebastian Berhalter, Damion Downs, Alex Freeman and Quinn Sullivan.

The USMNT will meet each other on 2 June in Chicago to start their training camp before the matches against Turkiye on 7 June in Pratt and Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Con. And Switzerland on 10 June in Geodis Park in Nashville.
