Shaquille O’Neal’s career March Madness highlights at LSU (1990-1992)

The year is 1992, the month is March. LSU drew the LSU in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Tigers arrive in Bois, Idaho, with their 7-Naha-1, 295-Libra SuperStar-Center Shaquille O’Neal.

At this point, Shaq was already at university at university. It was double All-American, Sec Player of the Year and the power of nature in color, was a player who all stopped watching. On March 19, however, he released something that would be remembered even by those who did not see the game: three times-26 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocks.

Triple-Doubbles in March Madness Play was and are still unusual-especially for the center. O’Neal’s performance was an example of the dominance and preview of the legend that soon became.

Game: LSU vs. Bullshit

LSU entered the 1992 NCAA tournament as 7-SEMEN, tilted O’Neal heavily, and the broadcast has explained from the beginning. “The 54-Footer Kevin Nixon against Utep gave the right to meet LSU tonight,” said CBS ‘Sean McDonough, “Shaquille O’Neal-maybe the best player in university basketball, certainly one of the most popular.”

The tone was set before the initial tip. Soon in the first half, LSU does not waste his star feeding time. With the entry passage to the Shaq post, it throws the first points of the game. That was a kind of introductory statement with which Byu would have to deal with the whole night.

Shaq causes his presence to feel soon, averting an attempt at a rim.

It blocks another Burning Shot, immediately a bounce and offers the ball to start a quick break.

O’Neal goes to the shot in, but he can’t get it to fall. The muscles down after the reflection, get the ball back up and sinks the basket and pulls the foul.

Shaq again Shaq Swats Ball from the Loos and Clarence Clarence Ceasar is able to object free ball and turn what could only be a defensive stop at an immediate transition.

O’Neal, who withdrew, quickly finds his balance and turns back to the edge for two points.

Moments after Shaq tied the record of the NCAA tournament block (10), formerly determined by Shawn Bradley in 1991, Cougars will make the last desperate ride to the edge. O’Neal meets Floater Kevin Nixon, who threw his 11.

This game described O’Neal’s sixth career three times on LSU, but his only in the NCAA tournament. The tigers defeated the Byu, 94-83, to advance to the second round, where they lost with No. 5 Seed Indiana.

Rarity triple in March madness

For those who are not unknown with this term, it is three times double when the player records two -digit sums with one game in three different statistical categories in one game. Until the 1985-86 season, when NCAA finally began watching blocks and theft, it is even three times acknowledged in Basketball.

Unlike the NBA, where pace and longer games create more chances, it makes it difficult to achieve a three -fold four -minute formats of a 40 -minute format. Most of those who became at the end of the 80’s and early 90s came from the guardians of the accumulating assistance or theft paired with rebounds and points. More than three decades later, its 26 points, 13 rebounds and a record 11 blocks are still remembered as a defining moment in the history of the NCAA tournament. O’Neal’s Hall of Fame in the NBA would show its ongoing dominance, but its triple against Byu is a reminder of where it all started.
