Scouting the EFL Championship: Which attackers could follow in Victor Gyokeres’ wake to become a huge star?
The English championship returns on Friday when Birmingham City Ipswich Town organizes to start the season in the Second Division of England. You can catch the promotion throughout the season on Paramount+, CBS Sports Golazo Network and CBS Sports Network. The championship is one of the most competitive second divisions and it can produce part of the top talent in the world. Jude Bellingham is perhaps the poster boy for that path, his time in Birmingham City that leads to the first Borussia Dortmund and then Real Madrid. His brother, Jobe, now draws in his footsteps after having spent the now promoted Sunderland before he made the Dortmund switch.
And while Arsenal is haunting a Premier League title, another player who is made in the championship will be central to everything they do. Viktor Gyokees experienced an outbreak with Coventry City, with 110 games for the club and scored 41 goals and assisted 15 more in the championship before he got a switch to Sporting Club Portugal, where things really started. A well -completed player who can print, shoot and make things happen with his feet, the championship was where Gyokees found his game for the first time, and the competition brought him on his way to where he is now.
But if there is one gyokeres, you wonder if another player as he is currently hiding in the Second Division. One of the best candidates was perhaps Wilson Isidor, but he was promoted to the Premier League with Sunderland after scoring 12 goals in the championship last season.
Let’s look at a few other players who can excel and make the leap.
How many points should Wrexham earn in the championship for promotion to the Premier League?

Borja Sainz, Norwich City
Borja Sainz scored 18 goals last campaign and has really put things together as a left wing player for Norwich City. Everyone pushing for the Golden Boot, that was his first double digits scores season of his career, but on just 24 it is a sign that things can move in a direction to rise as a reverse winger hybrid. Sainz also brings a strong work percentage and is comfortable with the ball at his feet to help progress the ball and, more importantly, create his own opportunities out of nothing.
Consistency will be needed to prove that last season there was no flash in the pan, but it would not be surprising if Sainz is someone who makes earlier to the next level instead of later. Especially taking into account the fact that Norwich City is not a team that is one of the favorites for promotion.
Tommy Conway, Middlesbrough
We now reach a prototypic nine, because big things are expected from Tommy Conway this coming season. He registered 13 goals and one assist last season at Middlesbrough, but he starts to become a consistent scorer at the level with 31 championship goals and five assists in the past three seasons between Bristol City and Boro. The 23-year-old does not have the same work percentage as others on the list, but with how strong his finish has been, that can be looked at, especially because Conway brings his death in the attack and the structure.
In another team he could have higher social assistance figures, but that is not necessary with Boro where he can stay in the box and put the ball in the back of the net. Conway is already a Scottish international and also gets experience on the international stage that will only help him grow in the long term.
Finn Azaz, Middlesbrough
And here is the reason why Conway doesn’t have to worry about creating too many opportunities for others. Finn Azaz is much more a pure midfielder than he is an attacker, but that makes his 12 goals and 11 assists the last campaign even more impressive. It may be the highest goal scoring season of Azaz so far, but that’s how he helps, he has done it throughout the EFL, which now comes to the League Two championship. That rise and improvement in his game to meet the standard of a new level speaks volumes about what he could do if he jumped at a different level.
Azaz is part of the reason why Boro is around +500 to promote this campaign, because he and Conway will make a formidable duo in the attack and both see both on the Premier League earlier than later, but if Rob Edwards cannot send this team in the right direction, after the Luton Town wheel, for players who are bent.
Jack Rudoni, Coventry City
Possibly the most well -completed player to make this list, Jack Rudoni was a key figure in the urge of Coventry City for the play -offs last season and after his nine goals and 12 assists will have again in the mix for promotion. Just like Azaz, he did it at different levels, but it took him a few seasons to be used to the championship after the League One jump. Now at the age of 24 you never know what Rudoni is going to do. He is a strong passerby, but will also attack a team on the dribble if he gets room.
Without the ball, Rudoni will be involved in the defensive form of the team, which can cause turnover in the middle of the field. Already one of the top players in the championship in terms of combined goals and assists, more growth will be more growth. The Englishman is already a player who cannot be ignored, has Game -Breaking Talent.
