NHL Playoffs 2025: Stanley Cup schedule, bracket, scores, as Stars beat Jets in OT to reach conference final

Let’s get the basic foundations. The Dallas Stars defeated visitors Winnipeg Jets, 2-1, in the extension Saturday night to advance the final of the Western conference for the third consecutive year.

There was a mess and out of the ice, as the father of the Jets Center Mark Scheifele died unexpectedly hours before the start of the game. There was a question about whether he would play, but ultimately, Scheifele decided to adapt to Jet coach Scott Arniel, “I would like to play, and I know he has taken root here. I know he has been pressing hard. We have to see him before in the St. Louis series, and he is with us. Mark wants to play for him tonight.”

Scheifle would score the first goal of the game and, as it turns out, the last of the team, in a rebound in the second period. And would be involved in the key game that set the winner of the star game. In an attempt to break down a Dallas Breakaway, Scheifele stepped on Sam Steel, who scored the equalizer a period earlier, with 14.8 seconds left in the regulation to put the stars in the power game that extended at extra hours.

Sam Steel, who had previously marked for Dallas, was in a break when Scheifle desperately advanced trying to make a move when he advanced the striker to the blue line. The stars called for a while, but they lost a shot and had another locked before the end of the regulation.

Thomas Harley de Dallas scored 1:33 in the extension with the man’s advance, and will now take the Edmonton Oilers in a final comeback of the Conference on the Right to Skate for the Stanley Cup. But this game does not even reach overtime, if not for an amazing portion at both ends of the ice.

Jake Oettinger made 22 savings for the stars, but nothing brighter than his diving denial (or jump) with less than nine minutes to avoid a certain Mason Appeleton marker by Winnipeg.

Jets Netontder Connor Hellebuyck was the hard loser, as he stopped 19 shots while playing a solid game.

And for those who believe in the curses, the jets are the last team that does not win a Stanley Cup despite winning the presidents’ trophy. The last team to have the best record and became champions of the Stanley Cup was the 2012-13 Blackhawks Chicago.
