NHL coaching carousel 2025: Bruins hire Marco Sturm after missing playoffs for first time since 2016

The Boston Bruins finally filled their coach vacancy, as the team hired Marco Sturm to be the next team coach, according to an announcement by a team.

“I am amazingly honored to be named Principal Coach of Boston Bruins,” Sturm said in a statement. “I want to thank Charlie Jacobs and the Jacobs family, Cam NELEY and Don Sweeney for trusting me with this opportunity. Boston has always taken a special place in my heart, and I know how much this team means for the city and our fans. I have heard this passion as a player and I can’t wait to be behind the bench and feel -I’m excited again.

Sturm has spent the last three seasons of the reign of Ontario d’Ahl, which is the AHL subsidiary of the Kings of Los Angeles. During this time, Sturm directed the reign to a record of 119-80-11-6 and qualified for the playoffs in all three campaigns. Prior to that, Sturm acted as a 2018-22 kings assistant.

The 46 -year -old also recorded 14 seasons as a player as he adapted to six different NHL teamsincluding spending five seasons with the Bruins. Sturm recorded 242 goals and 245 attendance in 938 career games. The old Bruins striker was selected by the Saint Joseph’s sharks with the number 21 of 1996 Nhl Draft and also played Florida Panthers, Washington Capitals, Vancouver Canucks and Kings.
