MLS team of the week: Philadelphia’s defense steps up, Minnesota United’s Kelvin Yeboah scores goals and more

It is perhaps the international break, but Major League Soccer did not stop. The competition still plays during international windows and although international call-ups hurt some teams in the competition, the Vancouver WhiteCaps dropped their first points of the season, others flourished. Brandon Vazquez got his first goal for Austin FC and the Philadelphia Union came back on the right track by beating St. Louis City SC. It is still quite early in the season, but the week even brought the first coaching change in the competition with CF Montreal that continued from Laurent Courtois.

It is a strange decision after Courtois Montreal led to the play-offs last season against expectations, but a 3-0 loss for Nashville SC was the last drop. Montreal had a modest season out of season and is now a charged Eastern Conference with only one point, closely behind Toronto FC. Fortunately for Canada, Vancouver performs at least well, so that all teams do not set up the bottom of the competition. The nine goals from Montreal are not terrible, but this team cannot score after the departure of Josef Martinez. It is still to be seen how all this will change for the club, but it will be a good task to return to the play -offs for those who come in to lead them ahead.

But enough of that, let’s go to the stars of the week:

Keepers

Matt Freese, New York City FC: Faced with no fewer than 24 shots, Freese did not get a chance to rest in the net, but still came up with a clean slate in a strong performance with which the crew is confronted. Making five saves in a competition where each goal would have changed, the result here is sufficient.

Defenders

Kai Wagner, Philadelphia Union: Another competition, another assist and a clean sheet for the left side of Philly. Wagner now leads the entire competition with five assists as a left back and can be a support pillar in teams of the week if this continues.

Ian Glavinovich, Philadelphia Union: What is a better time to score your first goal for the team than in a full debut while you also grab a clean slate? It is quite a start of the season for Philly and everything that Bradley Carnell affects at the moment works.

Alexander Freeman, Orlando City SC: Freeman shifted a goal and an assist and continued a series of large versions of defenders by scoring a goal and helping someone else. It was quite a performance by Orlando that scored four goals as a team.

Aaron Long, Los Angeles FC: If you hold a clean sheet while you are confronted with pressure from the attack by Sporting Kansas City and also scored an important insurance goal, Long on the back has remained steady for the black and gold.

Midfielders

Evander, FC Cincinnati: When it seemed as if Cincinnati might have been set to lose from Atlanta United, two goals in five minutes of their starman were sufficient to guarantee a result. Evander was founded to perform at the big moments and gets the job early.

Emil Forsberg, New York Red Bulls: Forsberg was created everywhere for the Red Bulls with two goals and four opportunities. This week Fosberg also grabbed the fourth highest XG of each player and could ensure that his chances were good.

Martin Ojeda, Orlando City SC: Another important part in Orlando’s Bid Day Ojeda may have only created two chances, but they both led to assists while he also scored a goal of being involved in three of the four goals of Orland on the weekend.

Pep Biel, Charlotte FC: Starting with a quick goal in the 11th minute of the game, Biel would make the first of many contributions. He benefited from San Jose’s open game, he was able to create many opportunities and also help two goals, while Charlotte jumped to a 3-0 lead through peace. Charlotte would go to 10 men late and give a goal, but this is enough for the player of the week.

Ahead

Kelvin Yeboah, Minnesota United: The wages may have been hit hard by international call-ups, but you could not see it with the brace of Yeboah that protects a draw with the Reeling Los Angeles Galaxy.

Philip Zinkernagel, Chicago Fire: The fire continues to roll and their stars come under Gregg Berhalter. Every week you can almost choose one to use this piece and this week it is a zinc nail with a goal and an assist for the team.
