Man arrested in connection with death of former Penguins player Adam Johnson will not face charges

The man arrested by suspicion of slaughter after the death of the hockey player Adam Johnson will not face charges, According to Associated Press. On Tuesday, British prosecutors announced that the case against Matt Petgrave will not move forward.

On October 28, 2023, Petgrave’s skate appeared and cut Johnson’s throat after a gel collision in a match between the Panthers of Nottingham and the Sheffield Steellers. Johnson died shortly after, and Petgrave was arrested two weeks later.

After a long investigation, during which Petgrave fired some financial support for its legal rates, the Crown Prosecutor’s Office (CPS) service chose not to submit positions. The Crown Assistant Prosecutor, Michael Quinn, published a statement on this decision.

“The CPS and South Yorkshire Police have collaborated closely to determine if a criminal accusation against the other ice hockey player involves involved,” said the attached prosecutor of the Crown Michael Quinn. “After a thorough police investigation and a complete review of all CPS tests, we have concluded that there is no realistic perspective of condemnation for any crime and, therefore, there will be no persecution. Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Adam Johnson.”

Johnson was 29 years old at the time of his death and spent several seasons at the NHL and AHL levels with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. In 13 NHL games, Johnson scored a goal and three assists.
