Luis Suarez suspended six games in Leagues Cup play for spitting on Seattle Sounders staff member

Phase one of suspensions for intermiami players started after the End of their loss in the final of the Leagues Cup has been transferred to chaos. Luis Suarez spue on one Seattle Sounders employee while Sergio Busquets seemed to hit the midfielder of Sounders Obed VargasAfter the promotion. Both received suspensions from the disciplinary committee of the Leagues Cup together with Tomas Aviles and Sounders -employee Steven Lenhart. The suspensions are as follows and only apply to competition cup game:

• Luis Suarez: Suspended for six games for spitting with a Sounders staff member.
• Sergio Busquets: Hung for two games due to violent behavior.
• Aviles Tomas: Hung for three games due to violent behavior.
• Steven Lenhart: Hung for five games due to violent behavior.

All four also receive fines because of their behavior, and they cannot participate in competition cup games until the suspensions are completed. What is remarkable is that as things are stated now, these suspensions will not stop from participating in Major League Soccer competitions. Now that the Leagues Cup has done their assessment, it is up to MLS to determine whether there will be further discipline for those involved.

There is a precedent for further suspensions. Clint Dempsey A referee confronted during the US Open Cup in 2015 and tore up their notebook. Dempsey was suspended in the tournament for six games, but MLS also added a suspension of three games in the competition. Former Real Salt Lake Coach Mike Petke once received a three-game competition cup suspension for actions towards the referees. MLS has added a League suspension of three games to this. Miami and Seattle do not play their next MLS matches until 13 September, so there is still time for the competition to determine if more will be added.
