Islanders expected to hire Mathieu Darche as general manager: Front office exec won two titles with Lightning

New York Islands are expected to hire Mathieu Darche as the next CEO, according to various reports. Darche, who played nine seasons at NhlMore recently, he served as the Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey Operations Director. He would replace Lou Lamoriello, who occupied GM President and roles from 2018 until this season, but did not renew his contract for the 2025-26 campaign.

Darche won two Stanley Cups during his style in Tampa Bay, and in 2020 and 2021 seasons, the lightning bolt defeated the islanders in the conference finals. The islanders have the number 1 selection in the NHL project of 2025 after winning the lottery earlier this month.

Darche’s career has encompassed more than a decade and appeared with five different teams. He bounced again and again between AHL and NHL and played 268 games in the latter, accumulating 75 career points. Includes 18 Playoff appearances and three post -season points. It adapted to the Jackets of Columbus Blue, Nashville Pedators, San Jose Sharks, Lightning and Montreal Canadiens before leaving the League in 2012.

The islanders caused the CEO to change after a route of seven years under Lamoriello. He oversaw several successful seasons at the helm and built courts that in 2020 and 2021 arrived in the consecutive finals of the Eastern Conference. He won twice the GM Award of the League Year.

The Playoffs of 2021 marked the last time the islanders advanced beyond the first round, but lost the post -season in two of the last four years.

Lamoriello closed his islanders without a Stanley Cup, but he was three times winner with the New Jersey Devils. He turned the franchise into perennial contestants after his rise as president and general director of a long time, and the Devils won the Stanley Cup in 1995, 2000 and 2003.
