Harry Kane’s trophy drought ends: After over 600 games, 400 goals, he wins Bundesliga with Bayern Munich
Harry Kane’s long wait for a large trophy for club or country is finally over. Bayern Munich officially won the Bundesliga title on Sunday, their first in two years, with two games that save in the domestic campaign. Bayern Bond on Saturday 3-3 with RB Leipzig and was just a shortage of claiming the trophy on that day, but the 2-2 draw of Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday means that Vincent Kompany’s side has an eight-pointed lead in second place, enough to call time on the title race.
Although it is not the first time that various Bayern players will collect the medals of Bundesliga winners, this marks the first team in Kane’s career. He moved to Bayern in the summer of 2023 after almost a decade as a regular for the first team in his boy’s club Tottenham Hotspur, but he joined the German side in the search for more minutes in the UEFA Champions League and trophies. He was part of last season’s Bayern team, which for the first time became trophy -free in more than a decade, but the fortunes of the team changed this time.
Kane’s career was defined in many ways due to the trophy tracing, but as the 31-year-old last month told the Morning Footy of CBS Sports Golazo Network, it had little influence on his way of thinking and perhaps also on his reputation as the biggest goal scorer of his generation.
“I know that there is a lot of talk about the trophies and whether I am done with one trophy or 20 trophies, I don’t think it will change my way of thinking,” said Kane. “Every day when I wake up, it is the best person to be the best teammate, the best player I can be and I feel that I am now at the height of my Prime, so I want to play with the highest player, while I feel as long as possible.”
Such as Kane and the company in Munich celebrate, here is a by-the-numbers look at the journey of the English captain to his first big title.
1: Number of second place in the competition
Kane was not consistent in teams that are part of title races, but he was once part of a group that ended in second in the table – and it was not the Bayern team of last season. It was actually the Tottenham Hotspur team 2016-17 coached by Mauricio Pochettino, who was a step behind a dominant Chelsea that season, but enjoyed one of the best seasons of the team in the recent memory.
2: Number of losses in large international tournament final
Kane’s trophy -pursuit was not limited to the club game -over the years he has been an important player for a talented England team, but a few remarkable occasions have failed with this group. England reached the final of the euros in 2021 and 2024 but fell short, first to Italy in the London Wembley Stadium and then to Spain in the Berlin Olympiastadion.
3: Number of losses in Cup final for Club
The 31-year-old also came close to winning cups at club level, but was one of the second place three times, and again, none of those occasions was at Bayern. Spurs lost in the EFL Cup Finals 2015 and 2021 and also in the 2019 Champions League Final, which was time to Liverpool in the Madrid Madrid Stadium in another major achievement during the Pochettino years.
8: Number of Golden Boot Awards won
Kane’s long journey to win praise with a team was in stark contrast to its individual exploits. He won seven Golden Boot Awards in five games, three times in the Premier League (2015-16, 2016-17, 2020-21), last season in the Bundesliga and the Champions League and then during the World Cup 2018 and 2024 euros. He will probably add another one this season, because he currently has 24 goals in the Bundesliga, five before Leverkusen’s Patrick Schick with two more games to go.
447: Total scored goals
Another example of Kane’s goals would be possible – so far he has 358 at senior levels for Club and Country, a number that will undoubtedly increase in the coming years as long as he stays fit.
694: Total games played
Kane has waited nearly 600 games to win his first title, but a final method to illustrate his attacking bravery – he scored in 64% of the matches in which he played for Club and Country at senior levels, an impressive performance.
