Two golden boot front runners will collide with CBS while the regular season of NWSL returns from an international break. Only one goal separates the Temwa Chawinga (six) from Kansas City (Six) and Gotham FC’s Esther Gonzalez (Zeven) in a very close scoret title chase, and their two clubs meet for the first time this season when Gotham FC and Kansas City current Square on Saturday. Last meeting

The two parties met last year during the inaugural NWSL x League MX Femenil Summer Cup Final on Toyota Field in San Antonio, Texas.

The very first summer touring partnership between Division I Ladies Interior competitions in the United States and Mexico contained all 14 NWSL clubs split into five groups with Six Liga MX Femenil teams. After the group stage, a Playoff round of four teams was held, with two more finalists who were left to compete for the Cup championship. Kansas City Current defeated Gotham FC, 2-0, to eliminate the cup thanks to goals from Temwa Chawinga.

During the regular season of 2024 NWSL, the two clubs faced each other twice and settled for 1-1 during each meeting. The two games ended the season with post season berths and were eliminated during the NWSL and final final of 2024.

What Gotham says

The east coast side runs high from their Concacaf W Champions Cup victory. It is again a trophy to add to the cabinet next to the NWSL championship of 2023, and places expectations in the club for next year’s Concacaf tournament and the future FIFA Women’s Club World Cup in 2028.

Gotham’s participation in the tournament means that the rest of the competition has been overtaken, and all teams are now equal to ten games played. It also means that Gotham’s former mid-table status has evaporated, and they are just in ninth place just from the 2025 play-off photo. With just a few weeks until the half point of the season, head coach Juan Carlos Amoros is indefinable that this is the perfect time for Gotham to get back into the Mix.

“The competition in Mexico was different, with the extra time, with different opposition against the NWSL, different challenges, different weather conditions, but at the end of the day it is again a football match where we want to be Gotham. We want to entertain our fans, enjoy the gameplay and get the three points.

“It is clear that we are paying extra attention, we cannot ignore the fact that they are at the top of the table at the moment, they have been the best team this year so far. So we have to ensure that we stop that run, and then we can get three points.”

Being the first place is not easy, and with a long season to navigate, the power does not look at the competition table with the conviction that Gotham will be an easy task. Head coach Vlatko Andonovski regards the Road Trip of the East Coast as a major test for his team.

“I just think they are dangerous. You can see that, although they may not have received the goals or points – so much this year, they create a lot and create in a way that not many teams can do. We know that New Jersey is going to play Gotham, it is a difficult test for us, or we are not even the stand.

“Gotham is a very interesting team. They are very, very Savvy. Very rather running and creative. Player to watch

Sarah Schupansky, Gotham FC: The Rookie attacker has been a big bright spot on the Roster while navigating early injuries outside season. She has recorded the extra responsibilities of playing and defending, and her solid, reliable game has now made changes on Line -Up changes in the coaching staff, because more experienced players are returning their way to form.
