FIFA Club World Cup scores, highlights, takeaways: Chelsea blank LAFC; Boca, Benfica square off

On Monday, Group D started the game at the Club World Cup with Chelsea who defeated Los Angeles FC 2-0, which shows why they are one of the favorites to win the Club World Cup. The blues started well with Liam Delap and made his debut and assist the second goal for Enzo Fernandez. The black and gold had to win a play -off with Club America to get to the tournament, to replace Club Leon, and they still put a fight against the blues.
Boca Juniors and Benfica also take the field in a match between two historic clubs before Flamengo ends the night from Es Tunis in Philadelphia. Filipe Luis is one of the rising managers in world football, and although he was linked to the Brazilian job, leading Flamengo in the CWC will be a pretty challenge, especially when a date with his former club, Chelsea, looms in the group phase.
Chelsea starts strong
It might take a bit before Pedro Neto scored the opening goal of Chelsea, but in the end their pressure continued Los Angeles FC. The blues could add another and never had problems with the black and gold while having their second goal. New signing Delap made his Chelsea debut after he joined Ipswich Town and did not waste time to show what he can do, with Fernandez being helped for Chelsea’s second goal.
The starting striker position is wide open to Chelsea, and with performance like this, Delap shows why Chelsea coveted him. Familiar with manager Enzo Maresca from his time in the Manchester City Youth Academy, it is already clear why the blues got him after he scored 12 goals and helped two more with the relegated city of Ipswich. Lafc can take positives from this loss because they limit the chances of Chelsea, but with MLS parties that struggle it, they must improve to show that MLS can get points in this competition.
