AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare: USMNT’s Christian Pulisic ‘key player,’ but Yunus Musah for sale

AC Milan Sport Director Igli Tare was appointed in the summer to start a new cycle in the Italian club, after a disappointing season that ended with the Rossoneri who did not qualify for the European tournaments next season. Milan succeeded that by appointing the former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, making a comeback in the club where he was the coach from 2010 to 2014 and won one Serie A-title during the 2010-11 season. Tare spoke with the media prior to the new season and spoke about the summer transfer window, including American internationals Yunus Musah and Christian Pulisic.
Speaking of Musah, who is talking this summer to leave the Rossoneri, Tare explained the situation.
“I consider Musah as an excellent player, but we are looking for profiles with characteristics that match the project that we have with coach Allegri. We are looking for in-depth midfielders for a three-man midfield. Musah does not have these characteristics. He can play in a midfield of two or three people, but with different characteristics. This is the real reason why we want to do something else.
“We are considering adding another midfielder in addition to a striker. We will sign a right power and a left power. In the case of a sale we will also intervene in the wing players and central defense positions. The same applies to attacking wing players. We have to concentrate on doing the best possible for the team and protagonists.”
Although the future of Musah is likely to be out of the Italian club after the summer, things are much different when it comes to Pulisic, as both Tare and Allegri consider the American wing player as a central player for the team’s project. “Pulisic will be an important player for the following season. I will have the opportunity to discuss the contract renewal with Club -CEO Giorgio Furlani at the right time, but at the moment we are only focused on the team. I think he was one of the most positive players of the past season and one of the pillars of the coming season is: he has a central role in this group.”
Musah played in different positions in midfield for his two years at AC Milan, but it did not regularly help him to become an important part of the team. He played as a central midfielder, as a right -wing midfielder, and occasionally even as an attacking winger and immediately back, and his versatility helped him play 80 games in two years at AC Milan, but it also influenced his status on the Roster. Pulisic, with 17 goals and 12 assists in 49 performances in all competitions, was one of the best players of the season for the Italian giants, but on his way to the World Cup 2026 in his home country who did not play European tournaments with his club, it is now what the American international needed.
