Paris Saint-Germain’s path to the Champions League final: How a new-look team became surprise contenders

The UEFA Champions League final will be a match of contrasts between Inter and Paris Saint-Germain, the latter adds many layers of intrigues as a surprising competition for the European top club price.

Few expected that PSG would reach such heights in their first season after the departure of Kylian Mbappe, with manager Luis Enrique bet on a slow rebuild that was built around rising French talent and a party Veteran Talent. The early results were also not necessarily promising – losses for Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich in the competition phase PSG looked more like a project and less on a final finalist.

Things, however, changed in the winter, thanks to the addition of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and the ability of the group to perfect the new tactical arrangement of Enrique. PSG became one of the most exciting teams in Europe thanks to their unique urgent style, which forms the basis for their attack -oriented game. Their round of 16 triumph over Premier League champions Liverpool was a first declaration of intent from PSG, but far from their last, on impressive, accomplished from their duties while booking a place in the Champions League -final for the first time in five years.

The competition phase

PSG started their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Girona, although it was a fairly stupid waxed names 26 shots, but only earned a victory for a 90th minute from Paulo Gazzaniga. The French champions then failed to win their next four games, lost to Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich and Draw PSV. They only had four points from five games and in 25th place, a point from a place in the knockouts.

The remaining games on the schedule also did not necessarily come up with a guarantee that they would crack the top 24. A 3-0 victory in December against soil residents Red Bull Salzburg offered a postponement, but their Champions League hopes in essence for their January meeting with 2023 Champions Manchester City. Although they were 2-0 in the 53rd minute, PSG met the moment and scored four times to make the first win but not the last-of their Champions League campaign. A 4-1 victory in Stuttgart the following week ensured that Enrique’s silk would end comfortably in the top 24, and finished 15th when everything was said and done.

De Knock -Outfhasen

PSG Drew colleague French side Brest in the Knock -Outphase Playoffs, who offered a new start of species after a challenging competition phase. The results spoke for himself, although Brest was one of the surprise stories of the competition phase, PSG won the draw 10-0 aggregated with Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha who each scored twice in the draw and Kvaratskhelia who packed his first European goal for his new club.

The crooked nature of their draw against Brest was succeeded by an incredibly stiff test against Liverpool in the round of 16. PSG lost 1-0 to the in-shaped red at home, but the side of Enrique completely hit them out, with that momentum to give the total score on 1-1 only in the return leg on the edge bone at Anfield thanks to Dembelele. The two teams then went toe to toe until the draw was located in a penalty shootout, which PSG won 4-1.

PSG then took Aston Villa – led by their former manager, Unai Emery – in the quarterfinals, the English side who made a deep run in their first Champions League campaign in four decades. The Enrique group took a 3-1 advantage at home in the first stage and was 5-1 in the draw against the half hour in Villa Park in the second stage. Villa then almost organized a comeback with three goals, but PSG came at the top with a 5-4 total victory.

The side of Enrique faced another English team in the penultimate phase of the competition, this time an Arsenal side that was only a few weeks away from eliminating Real Madrid. The Gunners could not handle PSG’s Pers and Enrique’s side went up 1-0 in Emirates Stadium after just four minutes in the first stage, with Dembele scored again. Arsenal then spent a large part of the draw in search of a goal, but PSG succeeded in resisting their attempts, whether it is now through a strong show by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma or the wasteing shot power of the Gunners-Shot-finging. PSG won the second stage with 2-1 at home, with more than enough of a pillow to book a place in the Champions League final.
