Europa League scores, takeaways, highlights: Tottenham, Manchester United move closer to all-England final
We are one step closer to an all-prime minister League League final in Bilbao after Tottenham and Manchester United both won the first legs of their semi-final. Both teams came in driven and took the instructions of several goals at rest before they sail to victory. Harry Maguire and Casemiro led Manchester United to a 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, while James Maddison Tottenham led to a 3-1 victory over Bodo/Glimt.
For both Manchester United and Tottenham, this competition offers a route to save their seasons, where they are in the Premier League 14th and 16th respectively. The trophy-dried of Manchester United may not be as long as the 17-year-old drought that Ange Postecoglou wants to put an end, but with their second manager this season in Ruben Amorim, winning the Europa League could be an important sign that they are on the right track. After continuing with Erik ten Hag, United tried to find their foot under Amorim, and although it did not happen in the Premier League, European game is what their saving grace could be.
Let’s take a look at the competitions:
Europa League scores
- Tottenham 3, Bodo shines 1
- Athletic Club 0, Manchester United 3
Harry Maguire shows off Manchester United
Manchester United was able to respond quickly after he saw the goal of Alejandro Garnaacho excluded in the first 10 minutes after a VAR assessment, but it was through an unlikely source. Harry Maguire came forward and made the defenders of Athletic Club Miss before visiting a bad cross in the box. It found the head of Manuel Ugarte, who spent it spent it for the opening goal and opened the competition.
Five minutes later, Athletic Club was up to 10 men after defender Dani Vivian was sent away for a challenge at Rasmus Hojlund. Bruno Fernandes would not miss from the penalty spot before he scored half of the open game. With athletics up to 10, they could not offer much in the game, leaving them a mountain to climb when they go to Old Trafford for the second stage.
Tottenham’s cruise at home
Postecoglou made a few changes to the XI with Richarlison that entered the left wing in the absence of Heung-Min Son, and they have paid off. The Brazilian helped Brennan Johnson within the first minute of the game and sent Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to songs. Pedro Porro then received an assist to deepen with Maddison when Tottenham checked most of the competition.
Bodo/Glimt could get a goal back via Ulrik Saltnes, which is important with the second stage in Norway. The fine of Dominic Solanke in the second half was a much needed insurance goal because traveling home with an advantage of two goals is much more comfortable, but when Tottenham’s defense has sometimes struggled this season, they will not be self -evident to make their first European final when they lost Liverpool. It can come a round with that final that also takes place in Spain, opposite an English side, but there is more work to do that.
What is the following
Tottenham goes to Norway to make Bodo/shines against their very first European semi -final of the house. It could be a frozen affair at the Aspyra Stadium, but the hosts need an enormous version to destroy this shortage on 8 May. Manchester United goes home to Old Trafford, where fans will look to wait 90 minutes to celebrate the Red Devils who books their place in the Europa League -final books.
