Ovecchkin is about to become the leader of all NHL goals and can pass the Gretzky 894 mark before the end of the season. Currently, the standard of capitals has 884 goals after scoring Washington’s only goal in a 3-1 defeat against Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday afternoon.
It now needs 11 more goals in the remaining 22 games of the team to overcome the Gretzky record this season.
The 2023-24 campaign turned out to be a mortal for Ovechkin, where he scored 31 goals, his lowest total in a complete season since he won 32 in the 2012-13 season. Ovechkin had only 24 goals in 2020-21, but this season was shortened due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Ovechkin scored 42 goals during the 2022-23 season and scored at least 41 goals in 13 of his 19 seasons of the NHL.
Currently, Ovechkin has won 1,598 points (884 goals, 714 assists) in his career. He made even more history in 2023-24 when he recorded a record of the NHL 18th season of 30 Go, going on 17th by Mike Gartner for honor.
To the pace of this season, given its health, Ovechkin would surpass the “big” before the end of the regular season.
Ovecchkin will probably remain a force settled in the highest power game unit, so that there are figures that there are many goals score opportunities. He obviously scored at a much better pace that he did a year ago when he recorded only five goals during the first two months of the season.
