Crystal Palace appeal over Europa League spot denied by CAS over UEFA’s multi-club ownership regulations

The profession of Crystal Palace against the relegation of them from the Europa League to the Conference League has been denied by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The Eagles took care of their first season of European football in May, where she defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final, but Lyon’s last GASP qualification for the Europa League Three in the works. At the time, both clubs shared owners with the American businessman John Textor with an interest of 43% in the South London Club, one that he has since sold to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson.
UEFA concluded that the two clubs that play in the same competition would violate their multi-club ownership rules with Lyon, given priority because they had qualified via League Finish. Palace argued against the decision and insisted that Textor did not have meaningful role in the club and noted that it would have been premature for them to tackle the Textor situation against the first deadline of 1 March, a point at which they played fifth round in the FA Cup and had no other realistic path to European qualification. Palace is also supposed to have argued that updates had been sent to the wrong E -mail address and claimed that there was an extra deadline of 31 May to set up a blind trust.
In the end, Cas, however, chose the side of UEFA, Nottingham Forest and Lyon. The panel with three people concluded that Palace had not received unfair treatment compared to the other clubs in the case. Cas also stated that the panel was of the opinion that UEFA regulations are clear and do not offer flexibility to clubs that are non-compliant on the assessment date, as CPFC claimed. “
It was also concluded that Textor had an influence on both clubs.
Palace will now play the losers of the Europa League qualifying match between Fredrikstad in Norway or Midtjylland van Denmark in a play -off to reach the competition phase of the Conference League. If, as expected, Nottingham Forest is confirmed by UEFA when taking Palace’s Place in the Europa League, they will automatically qualify for the competition phase.
Speaking after the victory on Liverpool in Sunday’s community shield, Palace chairman Steve Parish had expressed the confidence that the profession would be successful. In the event that he was not, he said, “We will have to see if steps are afterwards.”
