Alex Morgan’s iconic number 13 jersey to be retired by the San Diego Wave, after USWNT star’s 2024 retirement

San Diego Wave FC will honor the former club striker and the American national team of women Alex Morgan with a pension ceremony by Jersey, the team announced. The club will honor its iconic no. 13 sweater and make her the first player in club history who celebrated their kit number. Morgan officially retired of professional game in September 2024and the news of her commemoration of the sweater comes only a month later She became a club investor. Wave FC holds the KIT Pension Ceremony on 7 September when they are confronted with the Houston Dash.

“Alex’s legacy goes much further than goals and distinctions. She helped lay the foundation for this club and increased the standard for what women’s football is today,” said Lauren Leichtman, governor of San Diego Wave FC. “She made her house this city, inspired our fans and community and helped determine who we are. Her impact will be felt generations, and it is only appropriate that her number becomes a permanent part of the history of Wave FC.”

Morgan has long had existing ties with the state of California and went to UC Berkeley before he played in WPS and NWSL. She was a fundamental part of three inaugural clubs in the NWSL history, with the Portland Thorns, Orlando Pride and eventually San Diego Wave FC.

She withdrew from the Golf as his leading goal scorer of all time with 23 goals of more than 50 performances. She also recorded nine assists during her Wave FC career and won the NWSL Golden Boot 2022 with 16 goals. She was a key figure in the semi -final of the team during the inaugural season and the 2023 NWSL Shield win.

After retirement, Morgan was busy with extensive work in women’s sports. She is a founder of Women’s Sports Media Company Togethxr and has recently invested in unparalleled, a Ladiespro basketball competition. She became a minority investor at Wave FC in May.
