Rangers trade Chris Kreider to Ducks: Anaheim’s muddled vision results in middling grade
After a disappointing season 2024-25, the New York Rangers are making great changes. They have exchanged Wotring Winger Chris Kreider at the Anaheim Ducks, a reconstruction club hoping to take a great step forward in 2025-26.
As part of the agreement, the Rangers send Kreider to ducks in exchange for Prospect Carey Terrance. Trade also includes a project selection swap with half -round selections.

During his 13 seasons with the Rangers, Kreider worked on the books of franchise records. He took third place in career goals (326) and the first in the career playoff goals (48). From 2021-2024, Kreider has won the aging curve and scored 127 goals, which took seventh place Nhl about this period.
However, Kreider finally dropped a supporters club -on the past season. At the age of 33, Kreider scored only 22 goals and won only 30 points in 68 games. With the intention of making some changes this summer, Rangers General Director Chris Drury decided to separate with Kredier and his $ 6.5 million lid for the next two seasons.
Ducks, on the other hand, have been a team that has been walking in the desert since 2018. They have not done the playoffs since then, and their reconstruction has been slow. The CEO Pat Verbeek is trying to speed up the process, as more perspectives reach the NHL level, but was this the right way to do it?
Let’s look at how each side was made in this trade, with the knowledge that the final judgment cannot be really done until a few years from now on.

The notes
Anaheim Ducks
The ducks have not only lost their playoffs in each of the last seven seasons, they have not even ended above 500 once in this period. The silver lining on these struggles is that Anaheim has been able to store your pool with premium selections in the draft. This past season, some of these perspectives began to blink. Mason Mctavish, Leo Carlsson, Jackson Lacombe, Olen Zellweger and Pavel Mintyukov have shown some promise.
These young players need help around them, so Verbeek added Kreider with a very low acquisition cost. I just wonder if it is an efficient use of the resources for ducks. Kreider is now 34 years old and reaches the worst full season of all his career. Not only was his production poor, but his five-five impacts also left much to be desired. The better will Anaheim be with Kreider in the mix? There may be some improvements in the game of power, but I do not see it to have a great impact outside of it.
The success of $ 6.5 million is not a great concern for ducks because they still have more than $ 32 million with which to work, but there is still an opportunity cost associated with Kreider’s money. Making a free agency dotted or being aggressive in the commercial market gets at least one little A little harder now.
I just find it difficult to see Anaheim’s vision with this movement. Kreider is a player who is clearly in the Backend of his career and I wonder how much this list can really help. It would make more sense than ducks to go to young players entering or currently in place. Is it possible that Kreider is back under Joel Quenneville? Sure, but it is not yet a long -term solution. At least it was not expensive to acquire it. Grade – C
New York Rangers
Chris Drury wanted to release money and move to a veteran player in decay. Complete mission. The rangers could not afford to return it to the same group, and this made Kreider an obvious commercial candidate. New York now has a little more room to renew its list for new coach Mike Sullivan.
In terms of return, the expert in the Atlético Scott Wheeler project classified Terrance as Anaheim’s number 8 perspective last summer. In 2024-25, Terrance reached 20 goals and 19 assists in 45 games with the strange hops of the OHL. If Terrance is capable of reaching the NHL and impacting the rangers, this would be sauce.
It was a wage tank by the Rangers, and they ended with a mid -level perspective and the best selection of the draft. It’s not a bad day at Drury’s office. You just need to use your new financial freedom wisely. Grade – B+
