7 storylines to follow ahead of the 2025 Men’s College World Series
The Men’s College 2025 World series is a new Milestone for the NCAA baseball tournament. Indicates the 75th edition of the final battle, which is played at the Charles Schwab stadium, an award that any team would like to say along with the latest national champions.
However, there is one similarity of all other years: the birth of a new set of matches, starting stars and moments.
Here are seven stories that we need to know in front of the first pitch.
For the first time since 2016 since 2016 since 2016 for the first time since 2016 series Coast Carolina-Arizona series
Is that 2016 again?
Not because of a viral trend or a catchy song, but the tournament field is relatively similar to the 2016 version, starting with Friday’s matches.
The opening round of McWs has many interesting matches. One that stands out is the coastal Carolina versus Arizona – the first game in Omaha and the McWS Championship 2016 match.
Both programs are much different from the two, which came to the field nine years ago, but allowed to retaliate each team and their loyal either the most important moment in the history of the program or in the time of deep grief. And these sentiments not only disappeared, especially for the loss of the team.
Even better, both teams were the first two programs to secure their place in McWs.
Although Chanticleers and Wildcats are the only two teams that have achieved their ninth anniversary, the field contains a number of teams from all over the country that differs in position and conference. There are eight teams from seven different conferences, six in 2016 and only two SEC teams, then only Florida.
Tournament Field 2025 makes history
Participation in McWs as a fan, player or coach is always a privilege. It is difficult to make a NCAA tournament, let alone reach omaha. And over the past 67 years, there was at least one team that reached Omaha and returned it for the next year.
Not this time.
For the first time since 1957, McWS Field will not present any of the teams that played there last year.
Below is the schedule of how each team from the 2024 season ended in 2025.
- Tennessee (National Champions) -Trate in Super Regionals on Arkansas, 2-0
- Texas A&M
- Florida State-Lower in Super Regionals to the Oregon State, 2-1
- Virginia – missed the NCAA tournament
- Florida – loss in the Conway region
- North Carolina-Green in Super Regionals to Arizona, 2-1
- Kentucky – loss in the regional final of Clemson to West Virginia
- NC status – loss in Auburn Regional
Teams 2 seconds create fields
In recent years, SEC has been the face of a college baseball for many reasons and its history in McWS reflects it. The conference has sent three or more teams to Omara in eight of the last 10 years. The last five national champions came from SEC.
2025 seemed to be no different after the selection show of the NCAA baseball tournament. Teams 13 SeC created the tournament, most in the history of SEC, and eight were announced as national seeds, another conference record.
These awards have been flooding since then. The conference crashed and burned because 11 was excluded before McWs – each raised one by one as a piece on the chessboard. Nine lost in the regions and two lost in Supers.
This is left by Arkansas and LSU to bring hardware home. Tigers did not do McWs last season, but won it all in 2023. Razorbacks are looking for their first national championship and ensure their first Omaha performance since 2022.
The field was a boiling pot of large names, medium and red -brown teams. Although SEC has only two teams in participation, it is the most conference.
Hi again, PAC-12
Although the PAC-12 was laid to rest after the last season, by sending former members to various conferences far and wide, it still has an impact on the MCWS from the grave.
Main.
Three former PAC-12 teams reached McWs in Arizona, Oregon State and UCLA.
Both beavers (No. 8) and Bruins (No. 15) received national seeds – former independent and second part of Big Ten. Wildcats, who joined the Big 12, were seed no. 2 in their relevant region.
If the PAC-12 were still established, they would have most teams directly in any conference that has participated in 1988 before the format of the current tournament was created.
Murray State continues in the middle of Major, 4 Seed Heritage
The victory of 5-4 competitors over Duke in Supers consolidated this team in the history of the program and tournaments. Murray State became the first time to McWs and became the fourth seed no. 4, which has happened since the current format was founded in 1999.
And they accidentally have the opportunity to keep the McWs formula. The Mid-Major program entered the 2025 and reached Omaha and won it for all eight years in two cycles-FRESNO STATE in 2008 and Coast Carolina in 2016.
With the abolition of the 2020 tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2025, it refers to the eighth season from the Historical Run Chanticleers. McWs represented many medium and medium, but few of them climbed to the top of the mountain. Six teams have won the National Championship since 1990.
Here is the look at how the other seeds No. 4 were doing when they got to Omara.
- 2023 Oral Roders: Lost in the second round (1-2 record)
- Stony Brook 2012: Lost in the first round (0-2 record)
- 2008 Fresno State: Won the National Championship (record 5-1)

The highest national seeds remain in the face of the opening round
The combat card usually mentions its matches from Prelims to the main event, the least known or important fighting at the beginning and the most expected match at the end.
This logic could also be adapted to the NCAA baseball tournament, where the two strongest teams meet in the final clearing or the Omaha championship series.
However, this match on paper comes much earlier. The remaining two highest national seeds, Arkansas and LSU, will meet in the opening round on Saturday at 19:00 et. This will mean the fourth meeting between Sec Powerhouses this year because Tigers won a regular 2-1 season at home.
Among the eight -member fields, Razorbacks and Tigers rank among the top three in multiple categories such as record, percentage, strikes and era. The battle includes 11 All-SEC selections, including Sec of the Year in Razorbacks Junior Shortstop Wehiwa Aloy.

Four teams are returning to McWS for the first time since victory at the National Championship
It has already been determined how unique the MCWS field is this year.
But here’s another fun fact: the four teams first appear because they won the National Championship: LSU, Coastal Carolina, Oregon State and UCLA.
LSU is the latest winner and in 2023 he captured his seventh title for the best moves of the MLB concept in 2023 in No. 1 and 2 overall selections of the right -hand Par Khenes and center player Dylan Crews.
Oregon State won it all in 2018 and since 2007 he took off Arkansas in three games at the first Beavers Championship. The team was filled with the future selection of MLB, including the total second Baseman No. 4 Nick Madrigal and 2019 overall Adley Rutschman, who was named McWS the most excellent player.
Coastal Carolina has been back for the first time since 2016, where they have won their first national title during their first round in Omaha and became the second half of Major since 2000 to win it all.
It has been for 12 years for UCLA, which won everything in 2013 for the only national championship of the program. Coach John Savage has now made Bruins for four McWs trips.
Outside Chanticleers, Oregon State and Ucl, Louisville did not get to Oma in six or more years.
